Tax law changes influence decision to move headquarters to U.S.
Domain name registry Afilias has made the United States its legal headquarters, moving it from Ireland.
The company created a new Delaware company, Afilias, Inc. and made its previous parent company, Afilias plc, a subsidiary of the Delaware company.
Afilias was one of many domain name companies that set up operations in Ireland, ostensibly to take advantage of favorable tax policies. With the recent change in U.S. tax laws, the benefits of running a headquarters through Ireland are not as great.
Nothing should change day-to-day. The U.S. headquarters, which already existed, is in the Philadelphia suburb of Horsham, Pennsylvania.
